TYPICAL Medium No Name FLYTRAP

$14.99

"Typical" or common refers to an issue with plant identification, such as missing tags, incorrect tags in pots, seed grown, open pollinated (volunteer) or just your basic everyday ordinary flytrap..

I have several I humorously call NFIs (No Freaking Idea 🤣). It's a great way to collect and build a collection of healthy, viable plants at a discount while helping me clear some inventory. The plant(s) I send will be growers choice and it could range from large trapped, crazy teeth, red colored, prostate or upright.

The Venus Flytrap, a carnivorous plant native to the subtropical wetlands of North and South Carolina, captures prey like insects and arachnids through a unique trapping mechanism. Tiny hairs inside its leaves trigger the trap to close when touched twice within about 20 seconds, ensuring energy isn't wasted on non-nutritive objects. Once live prey is confirmed, digestion begins following five additional stimuli.

Trap closure speed depends on factors such as humidity, light, prey size, and overall growing conditions, reflecting the plant's health. Unlike other carnivorous plants, Venus Flytraps are less reliant on high humidity. Their diet mainly includes crawling arthropods like beetles, spiders, and ants, with studies showing prey consists of 33% ants, 30% spiders, 10% beetles, 10% grasshoppers, and under 5% flying insects.

If prey cannot escape, continued stimulation leads to the trap edges sealing, forming a digestion chamber. Digestion takes around 10 days, after which the trap reopens, expelling the exoskeleton. Venus Flytraps can live 20 to 30 years in proper cultivation and are propagated by seed. They grow to a height of 5-6 inches (13-15 cm) and thrive in hardiness zones 7-11, with some hardiness in zones 5 and 6 if winter protection is provided.

These plants are approximately 1.5 years old. I'll ship them bare root protected in a damp piece of paper towel individually wrapped and enclosed zip lock bag. I'll include 3 inch pots and enough Peat Perlite Media to fill the pots comfortably. Grower's choice but I'll try to mix the plants by different characteristics for variety . Please note I can not be responsible for Postal delays or weather related damage. Please place your order with that in mind.
